How do I deal with a negative energy line going through my house? It goes from the head of my bed to a window on the other end of the house.
question from a Facebook group
Something that you feel as a “negative energy line” in your house can be caused by a few things. There may be a spiritual presence in your house, or on the land. There may be a negative energy in a person, such as an illness or injury; or a disturbance in the mind from a difficult situation, such as anxiety from work or grief from a recent loss.
It may even be caused by something you brought into the house, but those things don’t usually feel like a line traveling through the house. That suggests movement.
What are the different ways a Christian can approach this problem?
The steps you should take are clearing, securing, and sanctifying.
Clearing
Clearing is a standard opening step for any problem involving a physical space. It involves cleaning the house, both physically and spiritually. You can do both at once: open the windows and doors as much as you can, put on religious music such as worship music or hymns, and sing along as you clean. Imagine you are cleaning in the direction out of your house.
If you have the house to yourself, you can do this alone. Alternatively, you can do your best to get every household person involved in the activity, especially people whose room or space is at one end of the line– in other words, if the line begins or ends at someone’s bed or the chair they usually sit in. Don’t neglect smaller doors such as cabinets and closets: open them, do a quick sweep inside, and close them again. You don’t need to do a complete spring cleaning; this is mostly symbolic. Clean to the level of “someone is coming over in an hour” 😅
As you work, imagine you are removing unwanted entities from the house. You should be firm but polite; there is no need to be aggressive (yet).
As you near the end of your cleaning, begin to pay special attention to the “line” feeling you have. Which direction is it going? Is it pulling something in, dragging something out, or both? How can you temporarily move the furniture or other objects in the room, and how will that help? Try a few things.
You will probably feel that each end point needs special attention. Place religious objects at each end, or a bowl of salt, or even a light (be careful with candles– they are pretty but not at all necessary). Why salt or light? You are the salt of the earth, you are the light of the world (Matthew 5:13-14).
Securing
After you are done cleaning, while everything is still open, make a formal request, out loud, that the negative energy or spirit will leave.
Next, close everything back up again. Take some incense, a jar of fragrant spices, or a religious object like a cross or icon, and go through the whole house, praying as you go. If you are not sure what to pray, simply repeat The Lord’s Prayer, or the Doxology, or the Jesus prayer, or even sing a hymn that you love. You can use a hymnal, Bible, or prayerbook– do your best to keep speaking or singing without stopping for too long. The Psalms are another excellent resource. As you go, imagine you are securing the house, and closing it off to unwanted entities of all kinds.
Sanctifying
Take a shower and put on clean clothes.
Get a little oil, either some regular olive oil from your kitchen, or something special you have made for anointing.
Stand in the center of your house and anoint yourself, saying, “In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”
Go to the place you feel the energy line “begins,” and anoint that place; then again at the place the line ends.
Anoint any other places you feel are significant in this situation. Doorways are often significant.
When you feel finished, return to the center of the house and recite the Gloria: “Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.”
Be sure to put out any fires you have started, either incense or candles!– or move them to a safe place like a tabletop.
Other considerations
Does the line extend outside your house? If so, spend some time clearing, securing, and sanctifying the property outside. Sometimes spirits come from the land itself, and you need to be good neighbors to them, as well.
Do you feel that something you are doing has helped to create this problem? If so, spend extra time in prayer to consider how you can prevent this from causing more problems in the future. For example, if your job is so stressful that you are bringing anxiety home with you, stop somewhere on the way home like a park or playground, and do some activity to shake off that work-energy.
Sometimes the location of the bad energy can be a clue: if its in your kitchen, perhaps you are indulging in gluttony? If it’s near your bed, is there are issue with your marriage? This is not always the case, but something to consider. Even innocent choices may have unintended effects on the spiritual level. (I am being careful not to use the word “sin” here, but if that is a helpful way of thinking about it for you, please consider it.)
As a bonus final step, you can attend a church service or mass. (Even if you are not Catholic, there are often daily masses, usually in the morning, so this can be very handy for a final closing of the ritual.) If there are no services, perhaps you can go to the church and sit in the sanctuary.
