Ritual magic for conservative Christians

Ritual Magic presents a system of ritual magic for Christians. The author, also known as Agostino Taumaturgo, is an ordained Catholic priest and a student of orthodox spirituality and manifestation. The Western Esoteric Tradition relies on many Christian and Catholic concepts, and this book brings many practices and rituals back to the Christian faith and removes the un-Christian additions. The author discusses the philosophy of the process, the belief system that it requires, and common objections to the idea of Christians performing magic. And what is magic, according to the author? It is “applied theology”– in other words, how to do things with your Christian faith.

With one major exceptions, every symbol can be traced to historic Christian usage, every color and gesture can be linked to Christian liturgy or popular piety, and every prayer is one that can be uttered by a believing Christian.

from the book’s forward

The author covers spiritual entities such as angels and teaches a few traditional practices, such as the Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. He doesn’t only present the rituals themselves– he also covers what you need to know about your physical space, symbols and colors, a bit of astrology, and common prayers. You will also learn how to construct amulets and other objects of power.

I especially recommend the chapter on hand gestures and body movement. Priests have used these for thousands of years, and if you want to take the role of your own priest, in your own home, this knowledge will be essential.

The Occult authors and practitioners of the last few centuries borrowed a lot of material from Christians. If you are looking for a system of magic that takes it all back and centers it in a Christian worldview, this book is an excellent introduction.
